It’s Sarah Sweats in Style’s 3 Month Birthday, y’all! (I told you I’d keep doing this for the first full year of this blog)
For this wee anniversary edition, I wanted to share the pains of being a baby blogger. No, not a mommy blogger or a blog of someone who has a baby (which I do not); but the pains of a blogger who is new to the scene.

I think Lily Moscovitz from Princess Diaries said it really well:
”Wanting to rock the world by having zip power, that’s a nightmare”.

And honestly? That’s kind of what being a newbie blogger is like!
You’ve been following and loving fashion/lifestyle/food/fitness bloggers for a long time, you’ve been on the edge of your seat, hemming and hawing about whether you’ve got the stuff to be one of these bloggers, and you finally take the plunge because you ARE fashionable, you ARE unique and great, and… you have less than 1K followers. The only people who want to collab with you are the instragram bots who comment “collab? collab? collab?” and when you fall for one or two, they send you shoddy, broken product (if they send you anything at all).

It’s a bit disheartening. If you’re like me, you might be wondering where all your followers are. How do you get (real) partnerships? How do you get (real) shout outs? How do you make your mark and ‘become’ a blogger? How on earth do you finally get liketoknowit to accept your application?! How do you do all of this while still working your full time job?
No really, y’all. How do we do this?

People who blog and have these ambitions are made of a different kind of stuff. Yes, I’m a little disheartened. Yes, I’m a little tired. Yes, I’m a little confused and worried that I’ll be shouting to the void forever, and never develop meaningful partnerships or relationships through the magic of blogging. But you know what? It’s not going to stop me.

I started this blog for me. I took this first step because I wanted to share my fashion, fitness and lifestyle with the world. And sure, right now the “world” of my blog is optimistically seen by 600-odd people; but I’m going to take a page out of the Brits’ book and “keep calm and carry on”. I know lots of the bloggers we know and love are years into their work (and I’m only 3 months!), and it’s going to take time and effort for me to see myself as a “real blogger” in both my own and in brands’ eyes. But no matter what your dream is - we’ve got this! Good things take time.

xoxo, Sarah
