Red Lip Classic: We Never Go Out Of Style

Lipstick. It is arguably my favorite beauty tool. It’s magical. It has the ability to make you feel put together, beautiful, sassy, strong, powerful, romantic - whatever you want to feel. While I love rocking any color lip, there’s one that is my favorite: the bold red lip.

My absolute love of lipstick has one flaw: I’m incredibly picky. There’s a series of tests a potential lipstick has to pass. It has to be long lasting, preferably matte, there can’t be a weird aftertaste, and it has to be at least semi kissable. But that’s good news for you - because I’ve narrowed down the five absolute best red lipsticks for you - each named by those who helped made these particular ones so popular.

The Taylor
Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl

Taylor Swift is the first person who comes to mind when thinking of an iconic red lip. So, in the 2010s when she finally blessed us with the knowledge of which lipstick she uses, I absolutely had to get it - and I love it. It’s always in my makeup drawer. I love that it’s in an easy-to-apply pencil, is long lasting, and as bold as the woman who made it hers.

The Cheryl
LimeCrime Velvetines Liquid Lipstick in Matte Red Velvet

Anyone who has (or even hasn’t) seen Riverdale knows Red is Cheryl Blossom’s power color, and that her red lip is flawless.Admittedly, I actually had this lipstick before the show aired because it was recommended to me by a coworker back when I was working overnight at American Eagle in college. I love that this lipstick applies like gloss but dries matte, lasts all day, is thoroughly kissable, and: the company is completely vegan and cruelty free.Truly, this lipstick is actually my go-to red lip (sorry Taylor). If you only want one red lipstick in your makeup kit - trust me, get this one.

The Emily
Lancome’s Emily In Paris x L’Absolou Rouge in Attrape Coeur

Emily (in Paris) has many stunning fashion looks and a variety of shades of lipstick, but her red lip is my favorite - and when Lancome released their collaboration collection, this red lipstick was the first in my cart! It’s beautifully smooth and matte, and the most subtle of this list (while still being bold!)

The Peggy
Besame Cosmetics Vintage Lipstick in Red Velvet

My favorite thing about Besame Cosmetics is that it’s truly vintage. All of their lipsticks are still made with the same materials and formula as they were in the 20s, 30s & 40s.
I discovered this one as it was worn by Agent Peggy Carter in Captain America - and I’m so glad I found it. It’s stunningly smooth, the perfect color, and the unique shape makes it easy to apply. My only complaint is that it’s definitely not kissable and easily transferable.

The Natalie
Dior’s Rouge Dior in 999 Velvet

You can’t have a list of the best red lipsticks without Dior. They just released a new texture - Velvet, and it’s perfection. It has the look of matte while being smooth as your typical satin. And the classic 999 color is the absolute definition of red lip classic.

Which red lip is your favorite? Were there any of your iconic classics that I missed? Let me know in the comments below and send me your pictures, too!
