Let’s Get Moving!

I get it, not everyone is a nut like I am and actually loves, looks forward to, and cannot go a day without working out. That’s why I’m sharing with you some great ways to get moving and earn those endorphins (because happy people don’t kill their husbands, they just don’t) that don’t feel like you’re working out.

Hiking

I. LOVE. Hiking. A lot of people tend to give it flack because “it’s just walking in nature” and yeah, that’s why it’s so awesome. You can pick easy or hard trails, go for a day trip or a week, and the views are always stunning. Unless you’re scrambling over rocks to get up a mountain (which we’ve done- still so fun!), you hardly feel the effort of this activity because you’re too distracted by the trees, or the wildlife, or making sure you don’t trip over roots. All you need to enjoy hiking is yourself, comfortable shoes, water, maybe a granola bar (I always bring an RX Bar!), and a trail.
If you’re in the NYC / New Jersey area, I have a full post dedicated to the best Hiking trails to come!

Bike Riding

No, I’m not talking about your Soul Cycle or Peloton class (although I love those, too!). I’m talking about getting on a bicycle and out into the open air. To pedal away with the wind blowing in your hair and the sun on your back. It’s freeing, cool (you feel like you’re sweating less when you’re riding in the breeze), and fun! My favorite places to bike are at the beach - since the road is generally nice and flat. You may not feel like you’re torching those calories and working those muscles when you’re on a social bike ride with friends, but trust me - you are!

Dancing

Put on some Taylor Swift and Shake! It! Off!
Whether it’s a five minute solo dance party to work out some frustrations with work, or hours of dancing at a wedding or the club, dancing is a sure fire way to get your heart rate pumping without feeling like you’re “punching the clock” on your workout-o-meter.

Kayaking

If you’ve never been kayaking before, I urge you to find a place and try it! It’s an excellent upper body and cardio workout without feeling like you’re doing anything (alright, after a couple hours on the water you’ll be a little tired, but who isn’t after hours of anything?!). Bonuses are the gorgeous views you’re guaranteed to have, and the fun of splashing whomever you’re in the water with!

Ice Skating

Ice Skating may be more of a seasonal activity, but don’t let the picturesque vision of holding your lover’s hand while gliding away fool you- it’s hard work! You need your core strength to keep you balanced, and your legs are doing work to propel you forward. I love that despite all of this, you don’t feel like you’re working out! Mostly because you’re likely too busy thinking about the post-skating hot chocolate, and laughing at your partner’s inability to remain on their feet!

Whether you like hitting the gym or dread it; it’s always fun to find ways to move that aren’t traditional ‘workouts’.
All of these activities will give you a burst of energy while still ensuring you have a good time.

xoxo, Sarah
