Today is SarahSweat’s 4 Month Anniversary!
This month we’re celebrating with a personal victory: conquering my fear of hair accessories.

Well, I think a more apt word would be aversion. In the past I had steered clear of headbands, hats that weren’t baseball caps, and barrettes because I thought it made me look weird, childish, or like the Samantha American Girl Doll.
But this season, I decided to jump right in to the Hair Accessories trend.

The thing that really started me taking the deep dive was my wonderful fiance. While in Disney World’s Epcot, he bought this little Francophile her first beret! I have to admit, when he placed it on my head, I wasn’t sure if I’d like how it looked. But to my pleasant surprise, I absolutely loved it. (P.S. Thank you, Emily in Paris, for giving berets a comeback!)

Once I’d found my first successful hair accessory in hat form, it was time to broaden my horizons. And what better way to strut into the Holiday Season than wrapped up in a big tartan bow? This Bow Barrette is an easy, comfortable way to take hair from a slept-in look to glammed-up one.

Pro-tip for if you have thinner hair like me: use an elastic to pull back your hair first before affixing your darling barrette. It keeps it even more secure and prevents it from slowly slipping down your head throughout the day!

And of course, I couldn’t forget the biggest and baddest (and somehow most daunting) of hair accessories: the headband.
To me, headbands are the most difficult to perfect. You’ve got to make sure you find one that fits just right so it won’t give you a headache, and it has to lay well with whatever texture hair you may have.
Thankfully, this beautiful silk braided piece came to my rescue, and meets all of the ‘perfect headband’ criteria!

When it comes to hair accessories, take it from someone who has had experience: don’t give up!
Keep on trying until you find the ones you love. And I promise you, if you like how you look in whatever hair accessory you choose: be it bow, headband, ribbon, hat, or barrette - you’ll always be in style. So go ahead and take the plunge into your best hair affair!

Some of my top picks this season:

xoxo, Sarah
