The Only Running Shoe I’ll Ever Buy
The title is no joke, y’all.
Ever since I got into running in college, I’ve gotten this pair.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “If this is the only pair you’ve ever had, then how do you know they’re the best?” And that’s where I’m going to make you re-read that second sentence to see I did not perjure myself. Nowhere does it say I’ve only ever run in these shoes. I have tried other pairs of running shoes; but none compare to the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus.
Pegasus Air Zoom 37 / Pegasus Air Zoom 36 / Pegasus Air Zoom 35
I’ve owned every generation of this shoe (running shoes need to be replaced every 300-500 miles, so for a regular runner that’s every 6 months to a year, and for a person that runs casually that’s around every other year), and they just keep getting better without completely changing the shoe. Once it’s time for me to get a new pair for running, my older pair becomes my hiking or mud pair, and the pair before that becomes trash (which at that time, they need to be thrown away).
I try to always get them in black because I love the look of it- and that they’ll match anything. But if you’re more adventurous in your color choices, they do come in options that aren’t black! Putting comfort aside, these are some of the best looking sneakers out there. I grew up in the age where running shoes were chunky and not cute. You were forced to wear them in PE class and honestly couldn’t get them off fast enough once that bell rang. These gorgeous shoes are a completely different story. They’re sleek and clean, and I’m willing to wear them out in public for more than just a run.
Now- to the all important comfort of the shoe. I’ll start off by giving my biggest testament: the only time I have ever gotten blisters in these shoes (including with first wear!) has been when the padding on the inside was shot and they really needed to be replaced. And my next biggest testament: I’ve run three half marathons in these shoes, and at the end of each one my feet were fine. They weren’t blistery bloody messes, they were cushioned the entire time I was running and training, and no part of my foot was in pain before, during, or after these 13.1 miles. These shoes don’t feel like pillows; but I find that to be a good thing for running, as I wouldn’t want to feel like I’m trying to run through a field of marshmallows. These shoes do feel like a team of shoe gnomes holding onto your feet, making sure you feel supported, comfortable, and that the last thing you’re thinking about on your run or hike or walk is your feet.
So, if you’re an up and coming runner, are just looking for new sneakers, or a seasoned runner looking to try something new, go ahead and give these Nike’s a spin.
xoxo, Sarah
