Mad For Plaid: The Perfect Pattern for the Holidays

I don’t know what it is: my Scottish heritage, the 90s kid in me, growing up in a smaller farming town, or my eternal love of fall - but I’ve always enjoyed plaid. My love of this pattern started with a difficult relationship. As a kid, I spent several years in catholic school; where we were required to wear uniforms. Like every fashion-loving child - I hated them. It wasn’t the wonderful maroon plaid I had an issue with; it was merely the fact that I was being told what to wear! Honestly now, I’d definitely buy a skirt or dress like the ones I wore from second to fifth grades.

While tartan and plaid can be year round (hello, pastels and gingham!), I truly think it’s the perfect pattern for Christmas. I mean, does anything scream Holiday than my red pants above? They’re just so cheerful and festive!
One of my favorite things about plaid (other than the infinite varieties it can come in) is that it can either be an accent, or the star of your whole look.

A Pop of Plaid

Here’s some of my favorite ways to style plaid: by featuring a statement piece!

  • A Festive Look: pairing shiny gold heels and a black mockneck tee with my favorite holiday red tartan pants.

  • Winter Whites: adding a splash of pattern on my all-white outfit with a blanket scarf.

  • Snow Place Like Buffalo (Plaid): letting my bright buffalo plaid skirt shine by pairing it with a neutral white short sleeve top, black tights, black heels, and a bold red lip.

Head to Toe Plaid

With an infinite amount of patterns, of course this pattern deserves to be the star of the show!

  • I paired my absolute favorite winter dress: a blackwatch tartan bow pack piece with statement earrings and shiny gold heels.

  • This En Saison matching set is so cozy, warm, and cute! While I’ve put them together into a whole look, you can also style the sweater and skirt individually - making it so versatile! I’m wearing them here with my wedding shoes.
