We Go Together Like Thanksgiving, Sweater Dresses, & Blanket Scarves

When you think of Thanksgiving, these are the things that often come to mind: Family & Food. Sure, your tribe may have some traditions like running the Turkey Trot, watching the Macy’s Parade and the Dog Show, playing football in the morning; but odds are no matter what - the day is centered around Family and Food. Which means your outfit has to be centered primarily around comfort (and stretch!), but it also must be cute! After all, if you’re anything like me, you really only see some of that extended family twice a year for Holidays!

Which is why for me, the two stars of the perfect Thanksgiving outfit are: Sweater Dresses & Blanket Scarves!

Up first: The Sweater Dress.
I LOVE a good sweater dress. It’s arguably the easiest outfit: you just toss on an oversized sweater, possbily some tights and boots, and call it a day! They’re perfectly cozy for the colder months, and universally flattering (even after that third helping of mashed potatoes - it’s Thanksgiving, you deserve it!)

My Current Favorites (all pictured above):

SHEIN’s Cable Knit Ivory Sweater Dress, styled with a belt and knee high boots,
Aerie’s Sweater Dress, styled with a hair bow and knee high boots,
& Chicwish’s Windowpane Sweater Dress, styled with over the knee boots.

And now for the most versatile piece: The Blanket Scarf.

Who doesn’t love a good blanket scarf? They’re huge, cozy, so very warm, and can be styled in so many ways with so many outfits!
One of my favorite more unique ways to style a blanket scarf is what I like to call: Ode To Tartan. It’s so easy to do! You just unfold the scarf, drape it over one shoulder (a la the old Scottish Tartan), and belt it around the waist! I’ve styled my Blanket Scarf in the belted Tartan way here with jeans, a white turtleneck, and my birdies.

Another great way to style a blanket scarf is as a cape. This specific blanket scarf even has slits for your arms, making it easier to wear this way! Styling a blanket scarf as a cape makes me feel like an old royal; hence why I decided to style it in a dressed up look, complete with a matching blackwatch plaid skirt, a white blouse, and my favorite glittery Sam Edelman heels.

Last by not least, there’s the classic (and warmest) way to wear a blanket scarf: all wrapped up. I love wearing my blanket scarf this way (especially when walking in the cold), as it goes with practically any outfit! You can dress it down with a henley top and jeans, or dress it up as I did here with a swing dress & heeled booties.

So which is your preferred Thanksgiving look: blanket scarves, sweater dresses, both, or something different altogether? Let me know in the comments, and follow me on instagram for more Holiday fun! Have a lovely Thanksgiving, all.

xx, Sarah
